Alpaca Rovings, Ready to Spin
|
One
thing that we enjoy doing as a family is picking a "naming
theme" for each year's alpaca babies (aka crias). We
adopted this from our mentor farm in Oregon and have had a
lot of fun with it. There is, at times, some arguing over
what the theme will be but we always come up with something
fun and that we are all happy with in the end. For example:
- 2007 - Classic Rock & Roll Theme - Tucker Creek's
Journey
- 2008 - Baseball Stadiums Theme - Tucker Creek's Shea,
Parsonspf Wrigley, Parsonspf Fenway, Parsonspf Murphy
- 2009 - Small Town America Theme - Parsonspf Frisco, Parsonspf
Weston, Parsonspf Tipton, Parsonspf Richmond

How Kim & Jeff Got Started Raising Alpacas
Kim Overbey studied textiles in college and has always enjoyed
working with fiber and crafts in general. She made collectible teddy
bears for several years (1999 - 2005). While studying and working
with the fibers used as a Teddy Bear Artist she fell in love with
natural fibers like mohair and alpaca. She did a presentation at
her childrens' school on the teddy bears, the fiber she used and
the animals the fiber came from. This is when she fell in love with
the alpaca.
Kim and Jeff Overbey had talked about moving out of the city for
many years and the alpacas seemed the perfect type of livestock
to fit their lifestyle and provide Kim with the fiber that she loves.
The Overbeys both have full-time jobs. Jeff is a CPA at a utility
company and Kim is Payroll Coordinator at a local university. They
see their alpaca business as a way to provide the country lifestyle
that they have dreamed of, the opportunity to be a part of a thriving
eco-friendly industry and to keep them active and involved in the
community.
The
Overbeys look forward to introducing you to this marvelous business.
